David Lewis XML Associates was formed in January 2004 from a team of typesetting specialists. For thirty years the team has been providing database publishing services for print, and with the advent of online publishing using the Internet, our skills have translated easily into the world of multi-media. Rapid formatting of complex pages for print is perhaps the most difficult of the tasks needed for multi-media publishing, but that has long been our specialty.

Our favourite sayings should be: “Competitive advantage comes not from being the same, but from being different” and “Only dead fish go with the flow”. Unlike most typesetters, we did not rush to embrace DTP, but instead we have continued to use Penta, a high end batch typesetting system. Such code based programs are a natural marriage with XML, and because all the Penta development was concentrated on the batch page makeup, it now offers unsurpassed typesetting automation.

Whenever we take over production of a job previously typeset in Quark or InDesign, our customers are amazed at the speed with which we produce pages. And we can be competitive without having to resort to offshore companies, so when we communicate with our customers, we are speaking with authority, and not on someone else's behalf.
